The Delhi government is set to replace 1.4 lakh Chinese-manufactured CCTV cameras amid concerns over national security. Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh declared on Wednesday that the decision aligns with recent security directives.
The CCTV systems, primarily sourced from Chinese firm Hikvision, were initially installed during the previous Aam Aadmi Party government. Approximately 2.8 lakh cameras currently monitor the city, with plans to update a significant portion of them for enhanced data protection.
Minister Singh criticized the AAP, claiming they neglected the security risks of deploying foreign-made cameras. In response, AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj suggested the move could benefit a favoured company, questioning why the BJP hasn't enforced a nationwide ban if security is indeed at stake.
