The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for Cyclone Ditwah, poised to bring heavy rains and strong winds as it nears the North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast by November 30. The cyclone, currently near Sri Lanka, is expected to intensify causing urban flooding in southern states.
IMD Director General, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, revealed the storm's present position over coastal Sri Lanka and the southwest Bay of Bengal, advancing north-northwestward at 480 km south of Chennai. Significant rainfall is forecasted for Tamil Nadu, South Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, prompting flood warnings.
Authorities caution that Ditwah's strong winds may damage property and crops, urging precautions for residents in affected areas. Sea conditions will be hazardous, limiting fishing and shipping activities. Poor visibility could further challenge road travel, urging locals to stay indoors during adverse conditions.
