ECI Warns AITC Against Intimidating Election Officers

The Election Commission of India has firmly cautioned the Trinamool Congress against influencing Booth Level Officers during voter verification. It stressed that any interference is against constitutional provisions. The Commission calls for claims after December 9, and insists on accurate conduct in electoral processes.

In a decisive move, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has admonished the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) for attempting to exert influence over Booth Level Officers (BLOs) involved in the crucial verification process of voter lists. This stern warning follows accusations levied by AITC, which the ECI has categorically dismissed as baseless.

The Commission has directed the AITC to cease interference with electoral processes, urging the party to wait until the draft electoral roll is published on December 9 before filing any claims. This advisory is aimed at ensuring that BLOs, alongside other local election officials, can perform their duties without undue pressure.

Moreover, the ECI expressed bewilderment over the delay in honorarium payments to field staff approved by the body, urging immediate action by the state government. Highlighting the integrity and constitutional adherence of electoral proceedings, the ECI emphasized the necessity for political parties to circulate accurate information during election preparation.
