Election observers from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have raised concerns over the recent parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan. While acknowledging the elections were efficiently managed, the observers criticized the restrictive campaign environment, noting that fundamental freedoms in the country are increasingly constrained.
The elections further solidified President Sadyr Japarov's grip on power, as his allies secured the vast majority of parliamentary seats. This victory comes amid accusations of media and opposition suppression in the Central Asian nation.
With the president clamping down on dissent, the OSCE's findings highlight growing challenges in maintaining democratic freedoms and openness in Kyrgyzstan.
