Amidst allegations of irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, the BJP has called for a thorough audit of 1.25 crore entries processed from November 26 to 28. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, alongside other BJP MLAs, met with the state's chief electoral officer (CEO) to press their demands.
The BJP claims that the political consultancy agency I-PAC is allegedly interfering in the data entry process, sparking concerns over the integrity of the enumeration exercise. Adhikari, at the meeting, expressed doubts about the safety of the CEO's office and accused the Kolkata Police of partiality, noting that BJP functionaries were obstructed by protesters outside the premises.
The opposition party also criticized the use of underqualified officers as electoral registration officers (EROs) and demanded their replacement. Additionally, concerns were raised about alleged illegal entries of Bangladesh citizens in the electoral rolls. The BJP has urged for security enhancement, advocating for the possible deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) if needed.
