In a dramatic clash of religious and political interests, Murshidabad became a focal point as suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir initiated the foundation stone of Babri Masjid amidst the cheers of his supporters. Simultaneously, BJP leader Sakharov Sarkar championed the establishment of a replica of Ayodhya's Ram 'Lala' Temple with Shila Pratishtha rituals.
BJP's Sarkar emphasized his long-standing plan by stating, "On December 6, we committed to establishing the Ram temple in Behrampore, featuring a school and hospital via the Ram Mandir charitable trust." The move is seen as a significant stride in the region's socio-religious landscape.
Meanwhile, Kabir, asserting his rights under Article 26 of the Indian Constitution, defended his mosque project. Kabir stated, "Building places of worship is constitutional," referencing the Supreme Court's verdict on the Babri demolition. As tensions simmer, Kabir hinted at launching his political party on December 22.
