The Thai foreign minister emphasized on Tuesday that tariffs should not be used as leverage to pressure Thailand into dialogue with Cambodia amid renewed border tensions. Sihasak Phuangketkeow stressed that easing tensions lies in the hands of Cambodia.

Following intense confrontations in July between Thailand and Cambodia, U.S. President Donald Trump stepped in, linking trade tariff negotiations with stopping the conflicts. However, Trump has not commented on the latest skirmishes, despite indicating a continued desire for peace.

Phuangketkeow noted that sincerity from Cambodia is crucial before any third-party mediation can occur. He urged Cambodia to demonstrate genuine willingness to resolve the conflict before talks can begin.
