Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir has declared his intention to become a kingmaker in West Bengal's 2026 assembly elections by forming a new political party. On Tuesday, Kabir claimed no government could form without his party's backing, predicting that neither the ruling TMC nor the BJP would reach the 148-seat majority in the 294-member assembly.

Kabir's formal announcement of his political outfit is scheduled for December 22, potentially named the 'National Conservative Party.' The launch will occur at a public gathering of one lakh people at Berhampore Textile More. Kabir's stance has earned skepticism from the TMC, which labeled his political aspirations as "daydreaming."

The MLA's actions have already created a rift with TMC, intensified by his controversial involvement in establishing a mosque in Murshidabad, and he faces suspension for repeated violations of party discipline. Despite these tensions, Kabir is persistent in floating his new party, exploring unlikely alliances with Left and Congress representatives, though the AIMIM has dismissed any potential collaboration.
