Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah defended himself on Sunday after criticism over his comments regarding the Ladli Behna Yojana. Allegedly, Shah suggested that the financial aid to women's scheme beneficiaries would increase if they attended a function for Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, raising eyebrows about potential coercion.
During a meeting in Ratlam, Shah's proposal for a new year felicitation for CM Yadav sparked controversy, as his comments were perceived as a threat to withhold aid from non-attendees. In his defense, Shah said the topic was discussed informally to ensure eligible women benefit from the scheme.
Shah, holding key portfolios, emphasized his commitment to women's empowerment, denying any ill intentions. The Ladli Behna Scheme, launched before the 2023 elections, aims to increase its monthly assistance to Rs 3,000 by 2028, currently supporting over 1.26 crore women.
