The French interior ministry has fallen victim to a cyberattack that compromised several files, including sensitive criminal records, officials revealed. The breach, initially downplayed as minor, appears more severe than first reported.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, speaking to Franceinfo radio, confirmed that while the extent of the data compromise remains unknown, investigations are underway to assess the full impact. Nunez previously had assured that the email servers were not seriously compromised.
In response, a judicial probe and administrative inquiry have been initiated. The National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties (CNIL) has been informed. Authorities maintain a cautious stance, noting no mass data extraction yet, but concerns over the breach's depth persist.
