The Lok Sabha witnessed dramatic scenes on Thursday as proceedings were adjourned following the passage of the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Bill, 2025. Opposition members expressed uproar over the bill's provisions.
The bill proposes to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with a new rural employment scheme offering guaranteed jobs for 125 days annually. Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan defended the bill amidst heated debates as opposition MPs raised slogans and tore copies of the bill in protest.
In other business, a discussion on air pollution in the Delhi National Capital Region was slated, to be initiated by Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. However, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the day's proceedings, leaving the discussion postponed, as Friday marks the final day of the Winter Session.
