On Friday, Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal condemned the central government's decision to reduce the state's borrowing limit by Rs 5,900 crore. The timing, just three months before elections, raises concerns about political motivations behind the cut.
This financial restriction, Balagopal argues, jeopardizes Kerala's development and welfare programs. He labeled the move a strategic attack by the Centre, aimed at undermining the state's initiatives as it deals with existing fiscal burdens.
In addition, Balagopal criticized the withdrawal of central support from the employment guarantee scheme, transferring a significant financial burden to Kerala. This development was dubbed a violation of federal norms, adding to the urgency for public protest.
