The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections kicked off on Thursday, reporting a preliminary voter turnout of 6.98 per cent in the first two hours. Polling began at 7.30 am under stringent security measures in Mumbai and is set to continue until 5.30 pm.

By 9.30 am, the BMC spokesperson announced the average voter participation, spotlighting significant disparities in voter engagement across the city's wards as the civic body released data.

In particular, ward number 18 in the western suburbs displayed the highest participation at 11.57 per cent, while ward number 162 in the eastern suburbs recorded the lowest turnout at just 1.68 per cent, reflecting the varied enthusiasm among the electorate.
