Nitesh Rane, a Maharashtra government minister, has ignited a political storm by announcing that he will block development funds if candidates from Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) are elected in the forthcoming Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections.
Rane's comments have been met with sharp criticism from the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Congress leaders, who accuse him of abusing his power and subverting democratic principles. Shiv Sena leader Akhil Chitre likened the government's actions to a misuse of public funds, emphasizing that the treasury is not a personal asset.
Adding fuel to the fire, BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule defended Rane, suggesting that similar instructions were given by Uddhav Thackeray during his term as chief minister. Meanwhile, Rane is no stranger to controversy, having previously made inflammatory remarks during political campaigns, further drawing attention to his divisive rhetoric.
