In a developing story, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has raised critical concerns regarding the newly announced India-US trade deal. According to Washington, this agreement will facilitate increased US agricultural exports to India while obligating New Delhi to cease importing oil from Russia. Chaturvedi, while welcoming the reduced tariffs on Indian goods, remains skeptical about the fairness of the deal, questioning if it truly represents a win-win scenario for all involved parties.
Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh echoed these sentiments, questioning the lack of an official announcement from the Indian government. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's acceptance of terms dictated by US President Donald Trump, particularly the commitment to purchase Venezuelan oil instead of Russian. Singh argued that these concessions compromise India's sovereignty and historic ties, lamenting a perceived diminishing independence in India's foreign policy choices.
Further adding to the chorus of dissatisfaction, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari called for clarity from PM Modi in the Indian Parliament. Tiwari expressed discomfort with the perception that India's decision-making is increasingly influenced by Washington, DC, rather than originating from its own capital, New Delhi. He urged the Prime Minister to address the nation and uphold India's sovereignty and historical stature with transparency and leadership.
