West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has escalated her campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state by urging for the impeachment of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. Her call for action was made in the national capital, seeking to unite opposition forces against the poll panel's alleged biases.

Banerjee accused the election authorities of erasing voter names largely from her party's supporter base, notably affecting marginalized communities. Protesters from West Bengal accompanied her, exemplifying widespread discontent over the electoral roll revisions. She insists that the exercise unfairly targets opposition-governed states while sparing BJP-ruled regions like Assam.

Not deterred by numbers, Banerjee pledged her party's independent fight in forthcoming state elections, challenging BJP to refrain from leveraging the Election Commission in political battles. The matter has already reached the Supreme Court, where Banerjee seeks judicial intervention against the ongoing revisions.
