Historic Win: Women Leaders Take Charge in Malegaon Civic Body

Sheikh Nasreen Khalid of the ISLAM party has been elected as the mayor of Malegaon Municipal Corporation, with Shaan-e-Hind Nihal Ahmed of the Samajwadi Party as deputy mayor. Both leaders secured 43 votes in the 84-member House, marking a significant political milestone.

In a remarkable political development, Sheikh Nasreen Khalid of the ISLAM party has been elected as the mayor of Malegaon Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra's Nashik district. Her election is a significant achievement for the party and a strong statement of women's leadership in the region.

Alongside Khalid, Shaan-e-Hind Nihal Ahmed from the Samajwadi Party, has been elected as the deputy mayor. The successful election of both female candidates is the result of a strategic alliance between the ISLAM party and the Samajwadi Party, which came together to form the Malegaon Secular Front.

The voting saw both Khalid and Ahmed securing 43 votes in the 84-member House, surpassing the magic number needed for a majority. Their main opponents from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena received 18 votes each. This election result underscores the shifting dynamics in Malegaon's political landscape.
