Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of betraying the interests of millions of farmers by agreeing to a trade deal with the United States. According to Ramesh, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned because the Modi government disapproved of his pro-farmer stance.
Ramesh claimed in a social media post that Dhankhar, who hails from a farming background, was sidelined by the current administration for his supportive voice towards farmers. He pointed out the absence of a farewell ceremony for Dhankhar, suggesting it indicates broader issues within the government.
The Congress party has consistently criticized the BJP-led government for allegedly compromising on farmers' welfare under the new trade agreement with the U.S. Despite these allegations, the government maintains that the deal safeguards Indian farmers' interests.
