The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a stern stance against West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing it of showing disrespect to President Droupadi Murmu. BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari described President Murmu as the 'daughter of our tribal community' and stated that the TMC insulted her, implying disdain for the tribal community.
Bhandari further claimed that the TMC, under the influence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, protects infiltrators and harbors anti-national sentiments. The controversy was sparked by President Murmu's remarks expressing disappointment over the venue choice for the 9th International Santal Conference, which she felt resulted in the Santal community's limited attendance.
In response, TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee declared that the people of West Bengal would stand resiliently against what he perceives as an establishment lined up against the state, listing several national entities and leaders. This political confrontation adds to the mounting tensions between the BJP and TMC.
