On Monday, Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi officially entered the political fray by filing his nomination from the Jorhat assembly seat. This move marks Gogoi's first step into electoral politics in the state.
Before launching his campaign from Jorhat stadium, Gogoi, the deputy leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, paid visits to worship sites of various communities. The three-hour rally, involving a significant crowd, concluded at the district commissioner's office. The Congress, part of a six-party opposition coalition, seeks to create a 'new and developed' Assam under Gogoi's leadership.
Gogoi criticized the ruling BJP for allegedly coercing women to attend rallies for benefits and called for collective responsibility to reform politics in the state. He promises to break this cycle and provide government scheme benefits without political strings attached.
