In a tragic escalation of violence, over 30 civilians were killed by rebels connected to the Islamic State in eastern Congo, local authorities reported. The attackers, part of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), struck late Wednesday night in Bafwakoa, a village bordering Uganda.

The ADF, a Ugandan Islamist faction, has significantly ramped up attacks, complicating already tense peace efforts. Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, a spokesperson for the Democratic Republic of Congo's Armed Forces in Ituri, emphasized that the ADF targets civilians to undermine peace and exact revenge.

This incident underscores the region's instability as Eastern Congo grapples with multiple armed groups, notably the Rwandan-backed M23, which has recently expanded its reach. The deadly ADF attack reflects ongoing struggles in the area, affecting both Congolese and Ugandan territories.
