Akhilesh Yadav, chief of the Samajwadi Party, has voiced support for women's reservation but criticized the BJP for allegedly sidelining backward class women in a move he describes as having a hidden agenda. Yadav accused the ruling party of avoiding a caste-based census, claiming that this would impact representation.
His comments come ahead of a special parliamentary session to discuss the Women's Reservation Act. Yadav contends the BJP is showing undue haste, seeking to push through the bill without adequate deliberation on the implications for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and their representation in governance.
Yadav, currently an MP from Kannauj, underscored the significance of addressing fundamental issues impacting women, including inflation and economic pressures. He urged for direct engagement with women affected by these policies to ensure their concerns are genuinely addressed in legislation.
