In a developing political scenario, TVK chief Vijay has taken a firm stand against the Constitution (131st Amendment) bill on Wednesday. He claims the bill unfairly reduces the representation of southern states, with particular emphasis on Tamil Nadu, in India's Parliament.
Vijay acknowledged support for the bill's provision to reserve 33 percent of seats for women but voiced concerns over the significant imbalance it could create in representation between the northerly and southerly regions. Such imbalance, he asserts, could lead to disproportionate influence on matters like lawmaking concerning language, culture, and governance policies.
He further warned that a shift in parliamentary constituencies could impact fund allocation for population-based schemes, urging the withdrawal of the bill. The state already faces challenges in federal fund devolution, adding urgency to his plea for maintaining the status quo.
