In Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, thousands of women took to the streets on Friday to demonstrate in favor of the Women's Reservation Act. They started from Tata Stand in Deorali, marching to Paljor Stadium, and passing through key locations including Pani House and Metro Point.
The rally attracted members of civil society groups, government officials, and political activists. Participants, united in their support, carried the national flag and chanted slogans advocating the legislation, which aims to reserve 33 percent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.
SKM's Upper Burtuk MLA Kala Rai, one of the key organizers, emphasized the law as a national pride. She noted that women from all six districts of Sikkim had gathered to express their gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for supporting a long-standing demand, with an estimated 25,000 participants in attendance.
