In a significant political development, Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, announced the INDIA bloc's firm opposition to the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill and the Delimitation Bill. "Our people are fighting and will defeat it in the Lok Sabha," Kharge asserted on Friday.

The Lok Sabha is embroiled in heated debates over the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the controversial Delimitation Bill. The latter seeks to increase Lok Sabha constituencies to 850, potentially affecting the political balance. Opposition parties argue that basing delimitation on the 2011 census could diminish the representation of southern states.

Congress MP K Suresh sharply criticized the Delimitation Bill as "dangerous," alleging its potential to "demolish" opposition parties. CPI MP P Sandosh demanded an explanation from Prime Minister Modi for combining the women's reservation, delimitation, and census in one legislative package. Meanwhile, JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha defended the bills, questioning the protest, noting their unanimous passage and PM Modi's assurances of no changes to delimitation.
