Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed satisfaction as the Constitution Amendment Bill failed to pass in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Celebrating this outcome, Stalin emphasized that delimitation, concerning representation, should bolster the Union rather than disrupt its balance. A post on X revealed Tamil Nadu's perceived victory in thwarting the legislation.

Stalin proclaimed that Tamil Nadu and its allies successfully countered the bill, which they argued would dilute the southern states' influence. He reiterated that the state stands for justice and federalism, drawing inspiration from historical figures like Periyar, Anna, and Kalaignar.

The Chief Minister clarified that Tamil Nadu did not oppose delimitation per se but demanded a fair, inclusive, and transparent process. Stalin vowed that the state would remain steadfast whenever its rights, identity, or federal principles are questioned. His gratitude extended to opposition parties whose unity contributed to the outcome.

The Lok Sabha Speaker announced that the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill lacked the necessary two-thirds majority, with 298 members supporting it while 230 opposed it. Consequently, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju indicated that the government would not pursue the related bills further.
