As West Bengal approaches a pivotal assembly election, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has exuded confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prospects, asserting that the Mamata Banerjee-led government will not be re-elected. Speaking during a roadshow in Tollygunge, Shah criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, suggesting her administration is marred by failures.

Shah's remarks were a response to comments made by Banerjee about filing a 'legal case' over his 'violent remarks.' Amidst thick political tensions, Banerjee criticized the Home Minister's language and approach, warning that his aggressive tactics would not succeed in the state. The electoral atmosphere has intensified as both leaders wage a war of words ahead of the April 29 polling.

Adding to the heated discourse, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused both Prime Minister Narendra Modi's central government and the Trinamool Congress of corrupt practices during election rallies. The political climate in West Bengal remains charged, with all parties voicing strong rhetoric as Phase I of the elections records a high voter turnout of over 91%.
