Zoram People's Movement Takes the Lead in Aizawl Municipal Elections
The vote counting for the Aizawl Municipal Corporation elections commenced on Monday, with the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) leading in five wards. The elections saw a voter turnout of 62.77% and involved 68 candidates. ZPM, Mizo National Front, Congress, and BJP are the main contesting parties.

In a peaceful election process, the counting of votes for the Aizawl Municipal Corporation elections began on Monday. As of now, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) is leading in five of the 19 wards, according to a senior official.
Mizoram State Election Commissioner H Lalthlangliana confirmed that the counting of votes started at 8 am at the Aizawl deputy commissioner's office. However, trends for the remaining wards are yet to be disclosed.
A total of 62.77% of 2.39 lakh voters participated in this civic election held on April 21. Among the 68 candidates, 28 were women. The main contesting parties were the ZPM, Mizo National Front (MNF), and Congress, each fielding 19 candidates, with the BJP nominating 11. MNF had emerged victorious in the previous 2021 polls.
