Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry has summoned India's acting High Commissioner Pawan Badhe, following controversial remarks by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The comments, deemed as undermining diplomatic ties, came after the expulsion of 20 foreign nationals back to Bangladesh.
Director General Ishrat Jahan expressed Bangladesh's dissatisfaction with Sarma's statements, emphasizing that such language can damage the delicate relationship between the two nations. The official described these remarks as 'disparaging' and reiterated the necessity for diplomatic restraint in sensitive matters.
The current diplomatic unease occurs amid political shifts in Bangladesh, including the recent rise of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. As both nations work to mend their ties, this incident underscores the challenges they face in achieving stable relations.
