Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently emphasized the substantial development undertaken in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region, which has seen transformative changes over three decades, notably in its remote and tribal districts.

Recalling the region's past challenges, Gadkari highlighted issues such as Naxalite activities and poor road conditions that once necessitated air travel for government officials' safety. He paid homage to social reformer Baba Amte for his work in the tribal districts of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, while addressing severe underdevelopment in other parts like Melghat in Amravati district, where malnutrition once led to child fatalities.

Gadkari underscored the importance of continued development, advocating for new educational and skill programs at institutions like Gondwana University to boost local employment in bamboo-based industries. He also stressed the necessity for tribal-focused universities and higher education enhancements to aid remote regions' progress. Gadkari highlighted that inclusive programs are now run in tribal languages, such as Gondi, to improve educational access and social reform efforts.

Addition of a modern, barrier-less tolling system at Gujarat's Chorayasi Toll Plaza promises enhanced highway operations without vehicle stops, using Automatic Number Plate Recognition and FASTag technologies. This multi-lane free flow (MLFF) system marks a notable shift toward a digitized tolling infrastructure—aimed at easing congestion while aligning with government priorities for technology-led infrastructure advancements.
