In a surprising turn of events, Gaurav Gogoi, renowned Congress figure and son of the legendary Tarun Gogoi, faced an electoral setback in the Jorhat assembly, losing to BJP's seasoned leader Hitendranath Goswami by more than 23,000 votes. Despite a triumphant Lok Sabha victory from Jorhat in 2024, Gogoi struggled to replicate this success at the state level. His foray into the assembly elections was marred by allegations spearheaded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, suggesting ties with Pakistan's ISI, which Gogoi dismissed as baseless.
