In the wake of a significant setback for the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the recent Kerala state assembly elections, the spotlight shines on the resilience of P A Mohamed Riyas, the state's PWD and Tourism Minister. Despite the overwhelming rout, Riyas emerged victorious in the Beypore constituency.
With a tally of 81,849 votes, Riyas achieved a winning margin of 7,487 votes against his opponent, P V Anvar, an independent candidate supported by the United Democratic Front (UDF). This margin, although enough for a win, reflects a notable decrease from his 2021 performance, where he had a margin of 28,747 votes.
The dwindling numbers signify a broader trend of decreasing support for the LDF, which is currently leading in fewer than 40 of Kerala's constituencies compared to the Congress-led UDF's leadership in over 100 seats. Reports suggest notable losses for several LDF ministers, underscoring a dramatic shift in Kerala's political landscape.
