The 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu witnessed a significant political upheaval as the Thalaivii Vijay Katchi (TVK), led by actor Vijay, clinched a substantial 34.92% vote share, a stark contrast to previous elections where new parties struggled to make an impact.
Historically, Tamil Nadu's political landscape has been dominated by the Dravidian majors: the DMK and AIADMK. This election, however, showcased a shift, as TVK's commanding performance led it to secure 108 seats, making it the single largest party.
The DMK saw its vote share drop to 24.19%, while AIADMK's fell sharply to 21.21%. Smaller parties and independents shared the remaining votes, highlighting a fragmented political environment. This victory for TVK indicates a new era in the state's governance.
