The 16th Assam Assembly is poised to commence its first session on May 21, with proceedings set to continue for four days, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a press briefing following the initial cabinet meeting of his second term, Sarma revealed that Chandra Mohan Patowary, a senior BJP MLA and former minister, will act as pro tem Speaker.
He also stated that Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been briefed, and a formal notification will be issued. The session will be held on May 21, 22, 25, and 26, and includes the election of the Speaker, with Ranjeet Kumar Dass being named as the NDA candidate.
