India's new envoy to China, Vikram Doraiswami, has commenced his tenure by engaging in a key introductory meeting with Hou Yanqi, Director General of China's Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs. The Embassy of India in Beijing reported a productive dialogue focusing on recent developments in border areas, revealing a positive momentum in relations. Both parties expressed their commitment to leveraging existing mechanisms to foster a stable and mutually beneficial relationship as envisioned by their national leaders.

Doraiswami, a seasoned diplomat from the 1992 Indian Foreign Service cadre, officially assumed his role earlier this month. His appointment signifies a strategic effort by both India and China to mend and normalize ties that have been tensioned since the 2020 military standoff in eastern Ladakh.
