The AIADMK, a major political force in Tamil Nadu, is facing internal strife following a poor showing in the recent elections. The party is now divided between factions led by general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and the duo of C Ve Shanmugam and SP Velumani.
Both groups have requested that the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, JCD Prabhakar, appoint their MLAs as the party whip. Prabhakar acknowledged the petitions from both sides, stating he will make a decision at an appropriate time. The situation has escalated with calls for action against MLAs who cross-voted during a confidence motion.
Conflict between the two groups has spilled onto the streets, notably in Villupuram district, where a scuffle occurred outside the AIADMK office. Police intervened to prevent further escalation. Amidst this turmoil, several district secretaries have been expelled by Palaniswami, exacerbating tensions within the party.
