SP spokesperson Bhati booked for anti-Brahmin remarks in Muzaffarnagar

An FIR was registered on Tuesday against Rajkumar Bhati, the national spokesperson of the Samajwadi Party, for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the Brahmin community, officials said.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar told reporters here that the case was registered at the Civil Lines police station after Jasvir Singh lodged a complaint.
The SSP said the FIR was filed against Bhati under Sections 356 (defamation) and 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc.) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, and an investigation has been initiated.
Police said some organisations, including the Jat Mahasabha, staged a protest and submitted a complaint to the SSP demanding action against Bhati over remarks against the Brahmin community.
Police said further investigation is underway.
