Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his ''traitor'' remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said the statement reflects the Congress's ''frustration, political bankruptcy and narrow mindset''.
Sai condemned the use of an unparliamentary term against PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit, stating that the Congress, frustrated over being out of power for a long time, had crossed the limits of democratic decorum.
He said the leadership that firmly tackled serious challenges such as terrorism and Naxalism, strengthened national security, enhanced India's global stature and established the country as a decisive force on the world stage was being targeted with ''uncivil language'', which was ''extremely unfortunate''.
Sai said Constitutional positions such as the prime minister and home minister symbolise not just individuals but also the dignity of the nation and democratic institutions.
''Political opposition is part of democracy, but using insulting and extreme language under its cover goes against healthy democratic traditions,'' he said, adding that such remarks raised serious questions over the political maturity of the Congress leadership.
Sai further said that 1.4 billion people of the country were witnessing national security, development and self-confidence reaching new heights under the leadership of Modi and Shah.
''In such a situation, the irresponsible and anti-democratic conduct of the Congress will never be accepted by the aware citizens of the country,'' he added.
