The Tamil Nadu government, led by Vijay, faces criticism from opposition parties over its crop loan waiver plan. The policy, which promises to waive up to Rs 50,000 in crop loans, falls short according to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Critics argue it diverges from the election pledge of waiving loans for farmers with up to 5 acres of land.
AIADMK Chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami labeled the waiver as a 'scientific deception' and accused the government of distracting from other political controversies. While the government promises reduced loan burdens for farmers, opposition leaders claim it represents a betrayal of trust.
Despite the criticisms, PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss acknowledged the government's efforts, suggesting they could offer hope amidst economic challenges. He called for broader relief and input support for farmers. Meanwhile, the announced waiver is seen as insufficient by other opposition voices, urging the government to honor its original poll commitments.
