Gaza in Mourning: Hamas Leader's Killing Intensifies Israeli-Palestinian Tensions
Palestinians carried the body of Hamas armed wing chief Mohammad Odeh through Gaza City, following his targeted killing by Israel. Odeh's death comes amidst deadlocked talks between Israel and Hamas over Gaza's future post-ceasefire. The strike also killed his family, worsening the Gaza conflict further.
The streets of Gaza City witnessed a somber funeral procession on Wednesday, as Palestinians carried the body of Hamas’ armed wing chief, Mohammad Odeh. His assassination by Israeli forces marked a strategic blow to the group amid a fragile ceasefire.
Odeh, who recently succeeded Izz al-Din al-Haddad as the group’s armed commander, was killed alongside his family in an Israeli airstrike. The attack, officials say, targeted Odeh for his alleged role in the recent cross-border conflict. Mourners, however, insist such measures will not deter their resistance.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the intent to weaken Hamas by targeting its leaders. Despite efforts, indirect talks remain stalled over the ceasefire's terms, as tensions between the two sides continue to rise.
