The second phase of panchayat elections in Himachal Pradesh saw a notable start, as over 21 percent of registered voters cast their ballots in the first two hours. Polling began at 7 am across 1,276 panchayats, signaling active participation in the state's electoral process.

Sirmaur district led with a turnout of 23.59 percent, while Lahaul and Spiti recorded the lowest at 14.62 percent. The elections involve a substantial electorate of 17,30,300 individuals, including women and third-gender voters.

As voters like Sarita, who aims for better village amenities, took part at Dhawahan gram panchayat, the enthusiasm was palpable. The first phase, held earlier in the week, achieved a 78.90 percent turnout, and the third phase is set for May 30.

Votes are being tallied immediately after the polls, with the final results for various positions including municipal corporations expected by May 31. The elections, conducted with color-coded ballots, emphasize the dynamic civic engagement within the region.
