The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken issue with the Congress-led government in Kerala over an incomplete rendition of the national song, Vande Mataram, during an assembly event. The BJP accused the state government of deviating from protocol by playing only the initial stanzas.
Governor Rajendra Arlekar shared his displeasure after attending the assembly function, emphasizing that whenever he is present, Vande Mataram should be sung in its entirety. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla further attributed this breach of tradition to pressure from the ruling coalition's ally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
Poonawalla also implicated the Left party in supporting the partial rendition, criticizing both the Congress and its allies for allegedly lacking respect for national symbols. He further accused other opposition parties of opposing Vande Mataram's full rendition.
