AAP Clinches Victory in Punjab Civic Polls With Over 690 Ward Wins

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has secured a dominant position in Punjab's recent civic body elections, capturing over 690 wards and maintaining leads in numerous others. As vote counting progressed on Friday, party members gathered to celebrate with sweets and traditional dance to the beat of 'dhol'.
Party figure Manish Sisodia expressed gratitude to the citizens for entrusting leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Sisodia criticized opposition tactics, stating, "People of Punjab have replied to the 'ED party' (BJP)," and claimed that 1,142 BJP candidates lost their security deposits.
Polling, carried out using ballot papers on May 26, impacted 102 municipal bodies, encompassing various municipal corporations and councils. With a 63.94 percent voter turnout, AAP's victory in 698 wards is ahead of Congress's 281 and others. The results are seen as pivotal for upcoming state assembly elections.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlighted the endorsement of the AAP government's performance by the public, dismissing allegations of election misconduct by opposition parties.
