AAP Secures Significant Victory in Punjab Civic Elections
Aam Aadmi Party achieved a strong win in Punjab's civic polls, claiming over 45% of wards. This was interpreted as an endorsement of the party's development agenda ahead of next year's state assembly elections. The Congress trailed in second place, with results still pending in several wards.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured a decisive win in Punjab's municipal elections, capturing more than 45% of the wards. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann attributed the victory to the public's support for AAP's focus on development, contrasting it with the opposition's "politics of hatred."
According to election commission data, AAP won 886 out of 1,977 wards, outperforming the Congress, which secured 358 wards. The Shiromani Akali Dal claimed 178 wards, while the Bharatiya Janata Party took 153. Independent candidates also saw success in 246 wards. The counting of votes continues with results from over 130 wards still awaited.
The elections covered 102 municipal bodies and eight municipal corporations, registering a voter turnout of nearly 64%. The results are seen as a boost for AAP as Punjab prepares for assembly elections next year. Mann highlighted that the public has consistently endorsed AAP’s initiatives since the party’s rise to power in 2022.
The Congress faced mixed results, performing well in certain areas like Kapurthala but losing in strongholds such as Gidderbaha, which is seen as a setback. Meanwhile, the BJP fell short of its expectations, and the Shiromani Akali Dal retained its urban support base.
