D K Shivakumar is poised to become Karnataka's new Chief Minister as he and his team are set to be sworn in on June 3, as invited by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. The development follows Shivakumar's successful meeting with the Governor, where he submitted his claim to establish a new administration.

Shivakumar, accompanied by Siddaramaiah, who has resigned, presented a letter stating he was unanimously elected leader of the Congress Legislative Party. Gehlot has formally acknowledged this by scheduling the oath-taking ceremony at Lok Bhavan.

As the state Congress president, Shivakumar steps into the role after having held significant responsibilities, including Deputy Chief Minister, under Siddaramaiah. The transition marks a new chapter for the 135-member Congress unit in Karnataka.
