U.S. Pushes for De-escalation in Lebanon-Israel Tensions
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding de-escalation strategies between Israel and Lebanon. The U.S. has proposed a plan for Hezbollah to cease attacks on Israel in exchange for Israel avoiding military escalation in Beirut.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has initiated diplomatic discussions aimed at easing tensions between Israel and Lebanon. Speaking with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Rubio proposed a plan for gradual de-escalation of conflict in the region.
The plan involves the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group halting all attacks on Israel, which in return, will refrain from escalating military actions in Beirut. This initiative seeks to create an environment conducive to a cessation of hostilities.
While Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri suggested that Hezbollah is committed to a ceasefire, he urged Israel to refrain from initiating conflict. Notably, Israeli forces have advanced into Lebanon, capturing strategic positions, despite a prior ceasefire arrangement. The situation remains tense with calls for restraint from both sides.
