UK engaging with Washington on forced labour tariffs, government says

Britain is taking action to address forced labour in its domestic and global supply chains, amid US proposals for new tariffs over alleged failures to curb the practice.

Britain ​said on ​Wednesday it was ‌in regular ​talks the United States and was ‌taking action to tackle forced labour in domestic and global supply chains, after Washington proposed ‌new tariffs on imports over ‌alleged failures to curb the practice.

"We're tackling forced labour in the UK and in ⁠global ​supply chains ⁠to ensure UK businesses are not complicit ⁠in forced labour and human rights violations," ​a government spokesperson said.

"We continue to engage ⁠regularly with the US Administration as part of ⁠our ​negotiations, and have made clear the actions we're taking," the ⁠spokesperson said, adding that preferential access for UK ⁠businesses ⁠under existing arrangements remained in place.
