Russia Condemns U.S. Actions in Asia-Pacific Arms Race

Russia lambasted the United States on Thursday for what it described as American efforts to intensify an arms race in the Asia-Pacific region. This came after U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called on Washington's allies to increase their military budgets, as a measure against Chinese dominance.

Responding to questions about Hegseth's remarks delivered in a speech on May 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova strongly criticized Washington. Zakharova accused the U.S. of making “persistent attempts” to instigate an arms race by employing proxy forces.

The Russian official's statements underscore the growing tension in global geopolitics as countries vie for strategic influence, particularly in regions like the Asia-Pacific, which are viewed as crucial to global power dynamics.
