A Plea for Peace: Zelenskiy's Call to Putin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end ongoing hostilities, offering a ceasefire during talks. Zelenskiy stressed the urgency, noting that continued war could destabilize Russia and urged direct engagement, while Moscow acknowledged receipt of his proposal.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has extended an open invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging direct discussions to resolve the ongoing war. In a letter made public on Thursday, Zelenskiy highlighted the exhaustion of Russians due to the impacts of the conflict, such as inflation and fuel shortages.
Zelenskiy, addressing international stakeholders, proposed that peace efforts should commence at the war-torn frontline with a full ceasefire for the negotiations' duration. He suggested that a fixed date for a meeting be established, mentioning Switzerland, Turkey, and Arab countries as potential hosts for the diplomatic effort.
Emphasizing the historical significance of change when Russia grows weary of conflict, Zelenskiy warned that the continuation of hostilities could threaten Putin's leadership. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has acknowledged Zelenskiy's appeal, stating that Russian President Putin will be briefed on the matter.
