The Janata Dal (United) unveiled its candidate list for the 2026 Bihar Legislative Council elections, throwing the political spotlight on Nishant Kumar, son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Representing key districts, Nishant Kumar, Bharti Mehta, and Shivrani Devi Prajapati have been nominated from Patna, Madhubani, and West Champaran respectively.

For the crucial bye-election in Sheikhpura, the party has put forward Lalan Prasad as their candidate. Scheduled by the Election Commission, the Bihar Legislative Council's bye-election will see active participation from members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

The election timeline is stringent with the polling set for June 18, 2026—running from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm—followed by the counting on the same day. The process aims to complete by June 20, 2026, reflecting the Commission’s efforts to fill upcoming vacancies before the June 28 term expirations.
